Heather Walkus is a seasoned and well respected disability justice advocate, with a strong knowledge and belief in human rights legislation. Heather's beliefs include, "the diverse voices of people must come first” and “the way we work and organize must reflect the diversity and inclusion of the society we are building”. Heather's decentralized and empowering approach to leadership has made her an invaluable Acting Chair of the Council of Canadians with Disabilities.

The Council of Canadians with Disabilities (CCD) is a social justice organization by and for persons with disabilities that advocates for an inclusive and accessible Canada. CCD is a convening body that unites disability advocacy organizations in their activities of law reform, litigation, education, and dialogue with key decision-makers. The National Educational Association of Disabled Students (NEADS) is an independent organization representing post-secondary students with disabilities and also a member group of the Council of Canadians With Disabilities.
