Duties:

This is a distance education opportunity for graduate students. The successful applicant will be responsible for working under the direction of Dr. Patty Douglas within her Disability, Inclusion and Education research project. This study is being conducted from a disability studies in education perspective. It seeks to transform deficit models of disability underpinning special education, and to inform teacher education programming from a disability studies in education perspective. The project will fill a critical gap in educational knowledge about disability and open possibilities for belonging in school communities beyond deficit/remedial models of difference. Duties include:

Undertake a comprehensive literature review related to disability, inclusion and education in Canada
Assist with a program review of disability studies and inclusive course content in teacher education programs in Canada, as well as preparation of summary report
Assist with research ethics, key informant interviews, transcription and analysis of interviews utilizing NVivo software
Assist with public talks, conference presentations and manuscript preparation based on what is learned in the study at its various stages
Assist with preparation of a Connections Grant and working conference in year 2 of the study
Other related duties as assigned

Qualifications/Experience:

Hold a graduate degree (minimum Master’s level) related to inclusive education and/or disability studies
Have experience and outstanding skill in conducting and writing comprehensive literature reviews
Have strong written and oral communication skills
Have outstanding interpersonal and teamwork skills
Have excellent planning and organizational skills
Experience as a research assistant, specifically experience with NVivo software, key informant interviewing, research ethics, grant preparation and transcription is an asset
