Creating a Culture of Accessibility in the Sciences book launch
Education
Toronto, Ontario
February 27, 2017
Creating a Culture of Accessibility in the Sciences book launch Monday, February 27th, 2017 3:30 PM – 5:30 PM EST Location: Peter Bronfman Room, 7th Floor, Heaslip House, Ryerson University 297 Victoria Street Toronto, ON Description Science education presents unique challenges to students with disabilities, as well as to STEM faculty and educators. Students with disabilities encounter significant barriers to learning, training and employment in these fields. These challenges require a new culture of accessibility within science education. More than just physically accessing a science lab or using lab technology, a culture of accessibility in the sciences encompasses how we teach, mentor and learn in science, as well as the many dimensions of scientific training. On February 27, Access Ryerson invites you to the launch of Creating a Culture of Accessibility in the Sciences. Co-authors, Mahadeo A. Sukhai and Chelsea E. Mohler will explore the barriers both students and educators with disabilities encounter in the sciences and provide ways we can all work together to address them. Following the discussion the authors will be available to sign copies of the book. The book will be available for sale at the event.
